LeRoy Holly Home Tour Slated for December 13 November 2, 2008
LeRoy Heritage Museum, Inc. announces that the third annual LeRoy Holly Home Tour will be held December 13, 2008, from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
The tour will feature six historic homes or buildings in the community of LeRoy, beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. A variety of activities will also take place at the LeRoy Community Building (school house) during the event.
Tickets are $8 each and will be sold the day of the event at the LeRoy Community Building (age 12 and under are free and must be accompanied by an adult). The price of the ticket includes the self-guided tour of each of the six locations, the opportunity to participate in a Chinese Auction, and holiday refreshments. In addition there will be craft vendors, the museum gift shop, and a display showing the current renovation work taking place at the museum.
The tour will include new additions and some old favorites. Among them will be a historic Victorian era home originally built as a hotel complete with ballroom, a modern log home, a farm house that will have two floors open this year, a church built prior to the Civil War, a century old general store, and a doctor’s home once devastated by fire and now restored. Each year residents of LeRoy use their imaginations and create new and different ways to adorn their homes for the season. As a result, visitors are guaranteed a different experience even in the homes that they may have visited in the past.
The houses and buildings that will be featured on the tour are steeped in history. The oldest was built over 150 years ago and the newest was built 4 years ago.
“Most importantly, it’s a great opportunity for people to experience the charm of a 200 year old rural community,” said Matt Carl, President of LeRoy Heritage Museum.
The much anticipated LeRoy Holly Home Tour helps fulfill the museum goal of preservation by featuring homes, both old and new, that have been or are currently being restored by their owners. It also assists in fulfilling the goal of education by sharing historical facts about the homes and properties with visitors. The event, which doubled in attendance last year, also fosters a sense of community pride.
This special day is also a fundraiser for the LeRoy Heritage Museum, Inc. The museum is currently restoring the former Open Hand Grange in LeRoy which will become a museum and research library covering LeRoy Township and Barclay Mountain history.
Laura’s This-n-That variety store and the LeRoy General Store, both included in the tour, will both be serving patrons during the event. This will be a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and also pick up a famous Heritage Cheese Steak which may be perfect on a winter day.
